Claude Cowork and chat are now one Claude

Starting today, Claude Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude. The goal is that users no longer have to choose where a task goes: they can ask a quick question or hand over a report due at noon, and Claude takes it from there even after the laptop is closed. The rollout begins on Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks, with more plans to follow.

Anthropic also announced Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and Claude Design now works inside conversations. Users can ask for a document and write it together with Claude, or ask for a presentation and have Claude draft the slides. They can edit directly, present straight from Claude, or download as PowerPoint or PDF. All three are in beta on paid plans, and Enterprise admins choose when to turn them on. Standalone Claude Design keeps working as before.

The motivation is that Cowork was built as a separate place for bigger work and Design for visual work. People used both and said the frustrating part was deciding where a task belonged, and work started in one would not carry into the other. Now Claude can figure out what a task needs, so Cowork and Design capabilities are available from any conversation with existing context, skills, and connectors. Andrew Keller, Senior Economist, described having Claude pull up a legal research database, pull all the cases, read them, identify other cases that might be needed, download them, and store them in a folder for personal review.

In one example workflow, a weekly report is due at noon. Before heading out, the user asks Claude what moved in the pipeline last week, then adds instructions to write it the usual way, flag anything that slipped, and put the highlights in five slides for the leadership meeting. If something is unclear, Claude asks. The user can check progress from their phone on the way to the office, and by the time they are at their desk the report is waiting as a doc with notes from a teammate, while the slides are ready to open, adjust, and download as PowerPoint. Both came out of the same conversation, so the slides already match the report. The user can fix a line, leave a comment for Claude on a slide, and share it. Scheduling it for every Monday means Claude starts on the report without being asked.

Anything made with Claude Design, Slides, or Docs lives at one shareable link that can be opened on a phone. Users can select an element and move it, or tell Claude what they want changed. They can also choose how Claude checks in: by default, Claude asks before taking an action, but users can let it keep working and check in only when something needs a closer look, with the user keeping the final say. If someone mostly uses chat, they do not need to do anything differently; to hand over something bigger, they can try the next report.
