Roundtables: AI’s apocalypse crisis

Employees at the world’s leading AI labs have warned that advanced AI could pose a real risk of destroying humanity, raising the question of whether those warnings reflect a genuine existential threat or are scaremongering and hype. MIT Technology Review executive editor Niall Firth will host a conversation with senior AI editor Will Douglas Heaven and AI reporter Grace Huckins to unpack AI extinction fears.

The roundtable will cover where those fears come from, whether they hold any water, and—if they do—what should be done in response. It goes live on Tuesday, September 15 at 16:00 BST / 11:00am EST / 8:00am PST.
