Company Offering '100% Human-Written, Never AI' Medical Research Is 100% AI
Research Gold is a website that advertises services for medical researchers, including drafting peer-review-ready manuscripts, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. It claims its work is "100% human-written, never AI" and lists a team of PhD reviewers and professional methodologists. The site's offerings include protocol development, search, screening, extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, statistics, and a publish-ready manuscript formatted to a target journal, led by PhD methodologists with peer-reviewed publication records, and following PRISMA 2020 and Cochrane Handbook methodology. Authorship stays with the client.
An investigation found the claims are false. Calling the company connected to an AI agent that refused to admit it was AI and kept pitching services. Email and chat communications were also AI-generated. The "Team" page lists eight members, including Founder & Lead Methodologist Dr. Elena Vasquez and Scoping Review Specialist Dr. Mei-Lin Chen, but these people do not exist — searches found no matching publications or online footprints, and their profile pictures are clearly AI-generated.
A separate section of the site lists real methodologists whose identities were used without permission. Jenny Berrio, an evidence synthesis scientist, told the investigator she has no relationship with Research Gold and never consented to being listed. The report also explains that systematic reviews and meta-analyses are rigorous research methods, and that PRISMA 2020 and the Cochrane Handbook are standards guiding systematic reviewers and meta-analysts, with professional methodologists ensuring rigor. The deception raises concerns about the authenticity of research services and the misuse of both AI-generated and real identities.
