OpenSpec – A lightweight and configurable AI spec framework
OpenSpec is a lightweight, configurable framework for creating and managing software specifications, pitched as a way to build the right thing and build it right. It lets users capture what they want to build in a spec and keep the team and coding agents aligned as the work evolves. The framework is intended to help refine requirements, validate that they describe the right thing, and verify that the implementation matches.
It is compatible with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, and 33+ more tools.
The workflow is command-oriented: /opsx:explore maps the problem and helps understand the codebase; /opsx:propose drafts proposal.md, specs/, design.md, and tasks.md; /opsx:apply implements tasks from the specification; /opsx:verify checks that the implementation matches the spec; and /opsx:archive archives completed changes.
The project links to GitHub and Discord and is listed with 68.0k stars and v1.13.0, indicating a widely adopted open-source release.
