The Gemini app is now available for Windows
Today, Google is launching the Gemini app for Windows. The company says it is designed to work seamlessly alongside users' favorite tools and daily applications, providing instant assistance without breaking their flow. The app is available today globally for Windows 10 and 11 and can be downloaded at gemini.google/desktop; Google describes it as lightweight and quiet, running without slowing down the PC.
The announcement highlights three ways to use the app. First, a keyboard shortcut—Alt + Space—opens Gemini over active work at any time, so users can do quick fact-checks on a document or get title ideas for a presentation and jump back into their workflow. Second, a dedicated workspace provides access to everything users already use Gemini for, including handing off multi-step tasks to Gemini Spark, described as a 24/7 personal AI agent, and asking Gemini to draft project summaries by pulling information directly from Google apps like Gmail and Google Drive. Third, users can create images and videos from the desktop, generating custom images with Nano Banana and directing high-quality video with Gemini Omni, all in one place.
Google says this is just the beginning for the Gemini app on Windows, with more native desktop capabilities rolling out over time. The excerpt also notes that the content is generated by Google AI and that generative AI is experimental, and it includes a newsletter sign-up prompt with privacy policy details and an opt-out option.
