Google DeepMind has introduced Gemini 3.8, building on the momentum of 3.7 Flash from three weeks ago and marking the third Flash release in six weeks. Gemini 3.8 comes in two variants: Gemini 3.8 Flash, a general-purpose workhorse model, and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a specialized cybersecurity model. Both share the same foundational intelligence and are accelerated by long-running agentic loops that recursively evaluate and refine the models, with training in cybersecurity driving significant coding and reasoning gains across the shared core.

Gemini 3.8 Flash is positioned for long-horizon coding and autonomous agents, delivering substantial gains over 3.7 Flash at the same introductory price: $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. It outperforms most larger frontier models on the DeepSWE v1.1 long-horizon software engineering benchmark at a fraction of the cost. It also leads in specialized domains, outperforming 3.7 Flash and other frontier models on Vals Finance Agent V2 and Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark, and achieves 54.9% on HLE-Verified for multi-step reasoning across STEM, humanities, and professional fields. The performance gains come from a core design choice: the model "works harder," executing extra reasoning steps and iteratively calling tools, which may use more tokens at higher effort levels. Developers prioritizing compute efficiency can use lower effort levels or continue with the fully supported Gemini 3.7 Flash.

Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is the most capable cybersecurity model from Google DeepMind, offering frontier-level performance in vulnerability detection and automated patching. It is available to trusted defenders through the new Fairwind Program, which appears to be a controlled access initiative for cybersecurity applications.
