Expanding our support for scientists

AnthropicClaudeAI for Sciencescientific research

Anthropic is focusing on building products and programs to support the research community as Claude becomes increasingly capable at scientific research. In June, the company launched Claude Science, a product that integrates common research tools, produces auditable artifacts, and offers flexible access to computing resources. It also continued its AI for Science program, which provides free credits to researchers on high-impact scientific projects.

Today, Anthropic announced a significant expansion: 10,000 seats for scientists worldwide to access Claude subscriptions free or at discounted rates for one year through the new Claude team plan for scientists. Standard seats are free, while premium seats with 5x usage limits cost $15 per month. The company intends to extend the program well beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months.

The AI for Science program is also broadening its scope. Previously focused largely on biological sciences, it will now offer credits for researchers in other scientific fields, including ambitious, compute-heavy research such as the work that led to progress on the Riemann zeta function and Claude's protein design work. To apply, researchers must be a principal investigator or equivalent at an academic or nonprofit institution; verified PIs can add lab members. Labs can apply for up to $50,000 in credits per project, and any researcher is eligible.

Access is tiered by domain: researchers in biology and chemistry remain limited to Opus-class models, while Claude Fable models continue to block professional biology and drug development queries due to dual-use risks. In partnership with the US government, Anthropic is establishing an access program for life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models for life sciences R&D, and has enrolled its first participants, with more access expected soon.
