Proactive cyber defense for governments and enterprises
Google announced the Fairwind Program to address the dilemma defenders face between using expensive, hard-to-control frontier models or smaller open-weight models that struggle with complex vulnerability remediation and require custom tooling. The program provides a trusted group of Google Cloud customers, government agencies, and cybersecurity partners with access to Google's most advanced cyber defense capabilities, starting with Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber combined with the CodeMender harness.
The combined system lets defenders find, verify, and fix vulnerabilities at agentic scale, generating verified, deployment-ready patches in minutes instead of weeks, at a fraction of the operating cost of traditional frontier models—all within an organization's secure cloud environment.
Initial access is staged to entities most critical to societal resilience: government national cyber authorities, critical infrastructure operators (healthcare, telecom, energy, finance), and core technology platforms whose security uplifts millions of downstream users. Participating organizations must agree to strict operational standards, such as limiting access to internal cybersecurity, incident response, or penetration testing teams.
